commander · Clavileño, First of the Blessed
Blood Rites (LCC).
An Orzhov vampire aristocrats deck led by Clavileño, First of the Blessed — sacrifice vampires to create flying Vampire tokens, drain opponents on every death, and win through an ever-growing air force of undying vampires.
The Commanders
Blood Rites is a Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander deck built around vampire sacrifice and aristocrats — the classic combination of going wide with vampires, draining on every death, and generating an ever-growing board from your own losses. Clavileño rewards you for sacrificing vampires by creating new, more powerful flying Vampire tokens in their place, turning every death into an upgrade.
Clavileño, First of the Blessed is the engine. Whenever a non-Vampire token creature you control dies, it becomes a 4/3 flying Vampire. Sacrifice a Blood Artist token, get a 4/3 flyer back. The deck generates tokens constantly — from Blood Artist effects, from Vampire lords, from Elenda — and each token that sacrifices upgrades into a flying threat. The board grows in both size and quality the more you sacrifice.
Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher is the aggressive alternative. Carmen generates value from life loss and creature deaths, enabling a faster drain clock. Against pods where you need to close faster, Carmen lets you convert life loss from aristocrat triggers into card advantage and board presence simultaneously, putting more pressure on your opponents through raw drain volume.
Key Cards
Blood Artist
Blood Artist drains each opponent for one life and gains you one life whenever any creature dies. Every creature death in the game — your creatures, opponents' creatures, tokens, tokens from Clavileño — triggers Blood Artist. In a deck that sacrifices its own creatures constantly, Blood Artist converts each sacrifice into a drain trigger. In a four-player game where multiple players are sacrificing creatures, Blood Artist can drain opponents for ten or fifteen life in a single round of the table.
Bloodghast
Bloodghast returns from your graveyard to the battlefield whenever a land enters under your control — for free, every land drop. Sacrifice it to enable Clavileño, trigger Blood Artist, feed Elenda the Dusk Rose, then just drop a land and get it back. Bloodghast is the most efficient sacrifice fodder in the deck because it never costs mana to reuse. Its haste ability when opponents are at low life means it can also attack immediately in the endgame for relevant damage.
Elenda, the Dusk Rose
Elenda grows with +1/+1 counters whenever another creature dies, and when she dies she creates a 1/1 flying Vampire token for each +1/+1 counter on her. In a deck where creatures constantly die, Elenda can accumulate ten or fifteen counters before opponents address her — and when she finally dies, she floods the board with ten or fifteen 1/1 flying Vampires. Those Vampires immediately become sacrifice fodder for Clavileño to convert into 4/3 flyers, turning one Elenda death into a massive board upgrade.
Exquisite Blood
Whenever an opponent loses life, you gain that much life. In an aristocrats deck that drains opponents constantly through Blood Artist, Falkenrath Noble, and combat damage, Exquisite Blood doubles every drain trigger into life gain. The life total difference between you and opponents grows rapidly, and the lifegain fuels the Vampire deck's ability to run the game long. Exquisite Blood also forms an infinite loop with Sanguine Bond — a combo finish the deck can assemble with tutors.
Falkenrath Noble
Another Blood Artist effect on a vampire body. Whenever Falkenrath Noble or another creature dies, target player loses one life and you gain one life. In a deck with both Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble, each creature death drains for two life per opponent — six total in a four-player game. Stack a few more drain effects from Zulaport Cutthroat and similar cards, and each sacrifice triggers four or five simultaneous drain effects, turning every token death into catastrophic life loss across the table.
How to Play
Open by deploying small vampires and sacrifice outlets. Get Bloodghast into the graveyard early — once you're making land drops, it returns for free every turn and fuels Clavileño. Build toward Elenda the Dusk Rose while using Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble to drain opponents for every early sacrifice. By mid-game you should have Clavileño in play converting token deaths into 4/3 flyers and a growing drain engine of aristocrat effects. The deck wins two ways: drain everyone out through Blood Artist effects stacking up, or build a massive air force of Clavileño flyers and swing for lethal. Elenda's death-token flood is the most explosive single-turn swing in the deck — protect her, let her grow, then sacrifice her into a full board upgrade.
