commander · Ellivere of the Wild Court
Virtue and Valor (WOC).
A Selesnya enchantress-and-auras deck led by Ellivere of the Wild Court — attach Role tokens to your creatures, draw cards from each enchantment you play, and grow a Virtuous Role-powered army that snowballs through combat.
The Commanders
Virtue and Valor is a Selesnya enchantress deck from Wilds of Eldraine. Ellivere of the Wild Court creates Virtuous Role tokens — a new Wilds of Eldraine enchantment aura that gives the attached creature +1/+1 and lifelink. The deck generates a Role for each creature that attacks, drawing cards from Ellivere's enchantress trigger while growing the board with lifelinked attackers. Sythis, Harvest's Hand and other enchantresses compound the card advantage into an overwhelming position.
Ellivere of the Wild Court creates a Virtuous Role token on one of your attacking creatures during combat, then draws you a card. Over the course of a game with five attackers per turn, that's five extra cards and five Roles applied to five different creatures. With each Role granting +1/+1 and lifelink, the army scales rapidly while Ellivere refills your hand faster than opponents can keep up.
Key Cards
Sythis, Harvest's Hand
Draws a card and gains 1 life whenever you cast an enchantment. She's both an alternative commander and the best enchantress in the precon. With the deck running 15-20 enchantments including multiple Roles, Sythis draws cards and gains life constantly. Every Role you create from Ellivere triggers Sythis if you cast the enchantment; every aura you play draws a card. The combination of Sythis and Ellivere in play generates two or more cards per enchantment cast. That's why 49% of upgrades add Sythis.
Setessan Champion
Gets +1/+1 counters and draws cards whenever enchantments enter. Every Role token, every aura cast, every enchantment — Setessan Champion draws a card and gets a counter. In a game generating five to eight enchantment entries per turn through Ellivere's Role triggers, Setessan draws five to eight extra cards and gains five to eight +1/+1 counters per turn. She's simultaneously the best card draw engine and the most threatening creature in the deck — a 15/15 by the mid-game that draws multiple cards per turn.
Kor Spiritdancer
Draws a card whenever you cast an aura and gets +2/+2 for each aura attached to it. Kor Spiritdancer stacks auras — each additional Virtuous Role or enchantment attached to her provides +2/+2. Attach five auras and she's a 10/10 with lifelink. She also draws a card for each aura cast, providing raw card advantage. Spiritdancer is the deck's best target for stacking multiple Roles and auras, creating a single enormous threat that requires a wrath to deal with.
Ethereal Armor
+1/+1 and first strike, plus +1/+1 for each other enchantment you control. In a deck with twelve enchantments in play at peak, Ethereal Armor gives Kor Spiritdancer +13/+13 and first strike on top of her existing stack of Roles. A one-mana aura that scales with your enchantment count is one of the most efficient buffs in the game for this archetype. First strike means Spiritdancer kills every blocker in combat before taking damage.
Calix, Guided by Fate
An alternative commander and major enchantment payoff. Calix creates an Omen counter whenever you cast an enchantment and creates a token copy of the enchanted creature when you reach three omens. In a deck casting multiple enchantments per turn, Calix's omen counters accumulate rapidly — you get a free token copy of your biggest creature every two or three turns. Token copies of Kor Spiritdancer with ten auras attached are immediately lethal threats.
Daybreak Coronet
One of the most powerful auras in the game. Daybreak Coronet requires the creature already have another aura, but grants +3/+3, first strike, vigilance, lifelink, and protection from black and red. Those five keywords together on a Kor Spiritdancer already stacking +2/+2 per aura creates an essentially unbeatable combat threat. First strike and protection from black means removal from black and damage from red doesn't apply. Vigilance lets it attack and block simultaneously.
How to Play
Mulligan for Ellivere alongside one of Sythis, Setessan Champion, or Kor Spiritdancer. Getting an enchantress in play before Ellivere ensures every Role trigger also draws a card from the enchantress. Turn two: enchantress. Turn three: Ellivere. Turn four: attack, create Role, draw card. From turn four onward, the engine runs.
Stack one target — typically Kor Spiritdancer — with all your Roles and auras. Ethereal Armor plus Daybreak Coronet plus five Virtuous Roles makes Spiritdancer a 15/15 first strike, vigilance, lifelink creature that's immune to black removal. The table needs two-for-one wraths to answer this. Win through combat damage with one enormous enchanted threat supported by Calix tokens. Life gain from lifelink throughout the game buys time and resilience against aggressive decks.
