The Commanders

Bedecked Brokers is a Bant Commander deck themed around the Brokers crime family of New Capenna. The mechanical hook is stacking diverse counter types on permanents — shield counters, +1/+1 counters, loyalty counters, and more — and then using Perrie's ability to deal damage equal to the number of distinct counter types. The deck is a counter-themed value machine that protects its board while building toward one decisive attack.

Perrie, the Pulverizer is the win condition. Whenever she attacks alone, she gets +X/+X where X is the number of different kinds of counters among permanents you control. With five different counter types in play, she attacks as an 8/8 or 9/9. Crucially, she creates a shield counter on herself when she attacks, making her essentially unkillable through the attack trigger. She rewards diversifying your counter suite and punishes opponents who let her swing freely.

Kros, Defense Contractor is the political alternative. Kros gives target creature a +1/+1 counter and that creature must attack one of your opponents on its controller's next turn. You can "goad" creatures onto other opponents' boards. Against aggressive decks, Kros turns the attack pressure into a political tool — encourage opponents to fight each other while you accumulate counters and set up Perrie's kill shot.

Key Cards

Resourceful Defense
Art by Tuan Duong Chu

Resourceful Defense

A New Capenna exclusive enchantment. Whenever a permanent you control leaves the battlefield, move all counters from it to another target permanent you control. No counter is ever truly lost — they transfer to surviving permanents. When Perrie takes lethal damage, move her shield counters to another attacker. When a planeswalker with high loyalty is removed, move those loyalty counters onto another creature as +1/+1 equivalents. Resourceful Defense makes your counter collection resilient to removal.

Vorel of the Hull Clade
Art by Svetlin Velinov

Vorel of the Hull Clade

Tap, pay two mana: double all counters on target artifact, creature, or land. Double the +1/+1 counters on Perrie before she swings. Double loyalty counters on a planeswalker to push toward its ultimate. Double the shield counters on any creature to give it double protection. Vorel is the counter doubler that makes Perrie's math hit harder each turn. A Perrie with ten counters of a single type becomes a twenty-counter threat after Vorel activates.

Roalesk, Apex Hybrid
Art by Svetlin Velinov

Roalesk, Apex Hybrid

Enters with two +1/+1 counters and proliferates twice. When it dies, proliferate twice again. Roalesk is a counter engine that fires on both entry and death. Entry proliferates add counters to every permanent that already has them — Perrie, planeswalkers, other creatures. Death proliferates do the same. Against removal-heavy opponents, Roalesk dying to removal is a net positive for your board state.

Ajani Unyielding
Art by Kieran Yanner

Ajani Unyielding

A six-loyalty planeswalker that adds loyalty counters to your board and provides multiple value modes. His +2 exiles the top three cards of your library and you may put any number of nonland permanent cards from them into your hand. His -3 removes three +1/+1 counters from creatures you control to exile any number of target creatures with total power equal to those counters removed. The loyalty counters on Ajani count toward Perrie's distinct counter types.

Together Forever
Art by Johannes Voss

Together Forever

Immediately puts +1/+1 counters on all creatures you control based on your creatures' power, and whenever a creature you control with a counter dies, you may pay one mana to return it to your hand. Mass protection for your counter-laden board. Pay one mana to save any creature with a counter from the graveyard — and in this deck, nearly every creature has counters. Together Forever means board wipes set you back one turn instead of one game.

How to Play

Get diverse counters onto permanents early: planeswalkers provide loyalty counters, creatures provide +1/+1 counters, and Kros and shield counter effects add additional counter types. Aim to have four to six distinct counter types in play before Perrie attacks — at that point she's attacking as a 9/10 or larger with a shield counter protecting her.

Win through Perrie solo-attacking for twenty-plus damage after Vorel doubles her counters, or through Kros's goad strategy forcing opponents to trade their creatures into each other while you accumulate board presence. Resourceful Defense and Together Forever protect your investment through interaction. The deck closes games in one or two large Perrie attacks once the counter diversity is established.
