commander · Henzie "Toolbox" Torre
Riveteer Rampage (SNC).
A Jund blitz and ETB value deck led by Henzie 'Toolbox' Torre — cast creatures with blitz for free using a cost discount, trigger powerful enter-the-battlefield effects, and win through overwhelming creature-based value.
The Commanders
Riveteer Rampage is a Jund Commander deck themed around the Riveteers crime family — the muscle of New Capenna. The mechanical identity is "blitz" — an alternate casting cost that gives a creature haste, sacrifices it at end of turn, and draws you a card when it dies. Henzie discounts blitz costs to zero for the first creature you cast each turn, turning blitz from an alternative into a free enter-the-battlefield value trigger that draws a card and leaves the board clean.
Henzie "Toolbox" Torre has trample and an ability: creature spells you cast have blitz, and that blitz cost is reduced by one for each time you've cast a commander this game. Cast Henzie once and every blitz creature costs one less. Cast him twice and blitz costs are two less. By the third or fourth Henzie cast, massive creatures with blitz cost near zero. Each blitz creature enters with haste, attacks, triggers its ability, dies, draws a card, and leaves no body behind — efficient and clean.
The Beamtown Bullies is the combat aggression alternative. They're a legendary 4/4 with haste that, whenever they deal combat damage to a player, discard a creature card — that creature enters the battlefield under an opponent's control attacking. You give opponents creatures that attack others, then Warstorm Surge deals damage equal to each creature's power. Against pods with heavy politics, The Beamtown Bullies rewards forcing combat between opponents.
Key Cards
Avenger of Zendikar
Creates one 0/1 Plant token for each land you control when it enters. With a typical Commander board of eight or nine lands, that's eight or nine Plants immediately. Those Plants grow by +1/+1 for each subsequent land drop. With Henzie reducing blitz costs, cast Avenger of Zendikar for free or near-free with blitz — it enters, creates a dozen Plants, those Plants grow, then Avenger dies at end of turn drawing you a card. Sixteen power spread across the board from one spell.
Warstorm Surge
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, it deals damage equal to its power to any target. With Henzie blitzing in creatures with five, six, or eight power, each creature that enters deals five to eight damage to any target on arrival. Blitz Woodfall Primus for a free 6/6 that enters, deals six damage to any target, and also destroys a noncreature permanent. Warstorm Surge turns every creature cast into an additional removal spell.
Noxious Gearhulk
When Noxious Gearhulk enters, destroy target nonblack creature and gain life equal to that creature's toughness. A 5/4 menace that destroys the best creature in play and gains you life. With Henzie's blitz discount and Warstorm Surge, Noxious Gearhulk enters, deals five damage to any target, destroys the best creature, gains you five or more life, attacks as a 5/4 menace, then dies drawing a card. Seven total effects from one creature cast at a discount.
Woodfall Primus
An 8/8 trample that destroys target noncreature, nonland permanent when it enters. Also has persist — when it dies, return it with a -1/-1 counter if it had none. With blitz, cast Woodfall Primus, destroy an enchantment or artifact, attack for eight trample damage, die drawing a card, then return from persist to destroy another permanent. Two ETB triggers from one creature. Henzie's increasing discount means casting this for three or four mana by the third commander cast.
Evolutionary Leap
Pay one green mana and sacrifice a creature: reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature card, put it in your hand, and shuffle the rest. The deck generates creatures that die constantly through blitz — each blitz death at end of turn is a sacrifice outlet for Evolutionary Leap. Each sacrifice digs for the next threat. Leap converts the blitz end-step sacrifice from a liability into a free tutor for the next ETB effect.
How to Play
Ramp to five or six mana by turn four, cast Henzie, and start deploying blitz creatures every turn at a discount. Each blitz creature enters with haste, attacks, triggers its ETB effect, dies, draws a card, and resets the board. Reload with the drawn card next turn. Keep Henzie alive to stack commander tax reduction — by the third Henzie cast, most expensive blitz creatures cost nearly nothing.
Win through Warstorm Surge making every creature cast deal its power in damage to any target, plus combat damage from attacking blitz creatures. Avenger of Zendikar generates a lethal board of Plants in one turn. Noxious Gearhulk and Woodfall Primus eliminate multiple threats per cast. The deck ends games through sheer volume of ETB effects that opponents cannot keep pace with.
