commander · Breya, Etherium Shaper
Invent Superiority (C16).
A four-color artifact combo deck from Commander 2016, led by Breya, Etherium Shaper, generate thopter tokens, sacrifice artifacts to Breya's abilities, and assemble the combo kills that make this deck one of the most powerful C16 precons.
The Commander
Invent Superiority is Commander 2016's artifact deck, and Breya is one of the most combo-friendly commanders ever put in a precon. She enters and makes two 1/1 thopter tokens. Sacrifice two artifacts and she does one of three things: deal three damage to a player, gain five life, or give a target artifact or creature -4/-4 until end of turn. The thopters are artifacts themselves, so she eats her own tokens to keep activating. She's a self-contained engine right in the command zone.
Breya, Etherium Shaper also runs alongside Partner commanders. Akiri, Line-Slinger gets bigger and hits with first strike the more artifacts you control. Silas Renn returns artifacts from your graveyard to play whenever he connects.
Key Cards
Sharuum the Hegemon
Sharuum enters and returns any artifact card from a graveyard to the battlefield. In a deck that's constantly feeding artifacts to Breya, that makes the graveyard a second hand of free permanents. Bring back Breya, a combo piece, or whatever artifact matters most. Sharuum also loops with a copy of itself and a sacrifice outlet: get two Sharuums going and you can loop as many times as you have mana.
Whir of Invention
Improvise lets you tap artifacts as mana for this spell. With artifacts always on the board, Whir of Invention grabs any artifact in your library and drops it straight into play. Need a combo piece? Whir finds it. Need Ashnod's Altar for a sacrifice engine? Same. And instant speed means you can cast it in response to interaction or set up on an opponent's end step.
Akiri, Line-Slinger
Akiri gets +1/+0 for each artifact you control and has first strike and vigilance. With five artifacts out, she attacks as a 6/3 first striker and still blocks the same turn. As a Partner commander, she puts on early pressure without needing the artifact combo assembled. She wants the same pile of artifacts Breya's sacrifice engine wants, so both cash in on one board state.
Silas Renn, Seeker Adept
Silas Renn has deathtouch and returns an artifact from your graveyard to play whenever he deals combat damage to a player. Deathtouch makes him a bad block. Left unblocked, he brings back your best artifact every turn, whether that's Breya, a key combo piece, or something that got removed. As a Partner commander, he keeps artifacts coming when the main combo line gets broken up.
Tymna the Weaver
Pay life equal to the number of opponents dealt combat damage this turn, then draw that many cards. In a deck swinging with a bunch of small tokens and artifacts, Tymna often draws two or three a turn for very little life. As a Partner here, she turns Breya's thopters into a draw engine. Every thopter that connects buys another card.
How to Play
Get Breya down as early as you can, since she makes two artifacts the moment she enters. Feed those thopters to her ability to pressure players or kill threats while you build the artifact board. Mid-game, use Sharuum to bring Breya or key artifacts back after a sacrifice loop. Whir of Invention grabs any missing piece at instant speed. The win conditions are flexible: drain each opponent for three a dozen times by sacrificing artifact tokens to Breya, or assemble the loop with a second Sharuum and Ashnod's Altar for infinite mana. Opponents who leave Breya alone for the first few turns often look up to find the loop assembled by turn six.
