The Commanders

Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald
Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald · Art by Jason A. Engle

Exit from Exile is a Gruul deck built around casting cards you do not own yet, or at least cards you have not held in your hand. It leans on impulse effects that exile the top of your library and let you play those cards for a turn, plus cascade and other exile tricks. The payoff is that all of that exile activity feeds a growing pack of Wolves and a stream of free cards. It plays fast and rewards you for gambling with the top of your deck.

Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald does two things. Whenever you cast a spell from exile, or a land you control enters from exile, she makes a 2/2 green Wolf. She also has an activated ability: pay one mana, tap her, and discard a card to exile the top card of your library and play it this turn. So she is both the impulse-draw button and the token engine, and every one of the deck's exile effects turns into a Wolf on top of whatever it was already doing.

Key Cards

Etali, Primal Storm
Art by Raymond Swanland

Etali, Primal Storm

When Etali attacks, it exiles the top card of every player's library and lets you cast all of them for free. That is a huge swing of cards and mana, and in this deck every one of those free spells triggers Faldorn for a Wolf. A 6/6 that generates a full turn of value on the attack is exactly what the deck wants. Get it in and the game usually tilts hard in your favor.

Wild-Magic Sorcerer

The first spell you cast from exile each turn gains cascade. Since this deck is constantly playing cards off exile, that first spell almost always chains into a second free one. Each cascade hit is another spell from exile, which means another Faldorn Wolf. It quietly turns your impulse draws into two-for-ones every turn.

Nalfeshnee
Art by Sam White

Nalfeshnee

Whenever you cast a spell from exile, Nalfeshnee copies it, and you can pick new targets. Copy a removal spell, copy a big creature, copy a cascade spell to cascade again. With Faldorn out, the original still makes a Wolf, and the deck already casts multiple spells from exile a turn. This is the card that turns a fair exile deck into a busted one.

Stolen Strategy
Art by Dmitry Burmak

Stolen Strategy

Every upkeep, Stolen Strategy exiles the top card of each opponent's library and lets you cast those cards, with mana of any color. It is a recurring source of exile casts, so it feeds Faldorn a Wolf or more each turn while eating into your opponents' resources. You get their good cards and they never see them. Left alone, it grinds a table down on its own.

Outpost Siege
Art by Daarken

Outpost Siege

Choose Khans and Outpost Siege exiles the top card of your library each upkeep for you to play that turn. It is a clean, repeatable impulse-draw that keeps the cards flowing and keeps Faldorn's Wolves coming. The Dragons mode is there if you want reach damage instead, but Khans is the one that fits the plan. Cheap, sticky card advantage in a deck that turns card advantage into bodies.

Passionate Archaeologist
Art by Nino Is

Passionate Archaeologist

This Background gives your commander a trigger: whenever you cast a spell from exile, Faldorn deals damage equal to that spell's mana value to an opponent. In a deck that casts several spells from exile every turn, that adds up to a real clock without attacking. Point it at one player and the exile spells that were already making Wolves now also burn them out. It is a sneaky alternate win the deck can lean on.

How to Play

Ramp early with the deck's land search and green fixing so you can start impulsing cards ahead of curve. Get Faldorn down and turn on an impulse engine like Outpost Siege or Stolen Strategy so the Wolves start piling up every turn. Attack with Etali when you can to blow the game open, and hold Nalfeshnee for a turn where you are casting several spells from exile so the copies stack. The board fills with 2/2 Wolves fast, so anthem effects and a big Etali swing close things out, and Passionate Archaeologist gives you a burn plan if the ground stalls. Keep casting off the top and the deck snowballs.
