The Commanders

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy
Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy · Art by Fajareka Setiawan

Tinker Time is the Temur artifacts deck from March of the Machine, and it cares less about how many tokens you make than how many different kinds you make. Treasures, Clues, Food, Gold, Thopters, Servos: the more names on the board, the better. You spread out into a pile of small artifacts, then cash that variety in for a growing threat every turn.

Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy gives all your artifact creatures trample, then at the beginning of each end step makes a 0/0 red Gremlin token with a +1/+1 counter for each differently named artifact token you control. Control a Treasure, a Clue, and a Food and that Gremlin comes down as a 3/3. Widen the spread and it comes down much bigger. Do it every turn and you build a fresh trampling body while the rest of your board keeps growing.

Key Cards

Academy Manufactor
Art by Campbell White

Academy Manufactor

Academy Manufactor is the best card here for what Gimbal wants. Whenever you would make a Clue, Food, or Treasure, you make one of each instead. A single landfall or investigate trigger now hands you three differently named tokens at once, which is three counters on Gimbal's Gremlin that turn. It turns a deck full of one-token effects into a variety engine.

Tireless Provisioner
Art by Josu Hernaiz

Tireless Provisioner

Every land you drop makes a Food or a Treasure with Tireless Provisioner on the board. That feeds your mana, your life total, and your token count all at once. Pair it with Academy Manufactor and each land drop becomes a Clue, a Food, and a Treasure together. It is cheap, it comes down early, and it never stops working.

Master of Etherium
Art by Matt Cavotta

Master of Etherium

Master of Etherium is a lord for a board full of artifacts. Its own power and toughness equal the number of artifacts you control, and every other artifact creature you have gets +1/+1. In this deck that means it buffs the Gremlins, the Thopters, and every token creature you have spun up. With Gimbal handing out trample, a pumped board of artifact bodies gets through fast.

Junk Winder
Art by Campbell White

Junk Winder

Junk Winder costs one less for each token you control, so in this deck it often lands for a couple of mana. Then every token that enters taps down a nonland permanent an opponent controls and stops it from untapping. With a token maker or two going, you keep a table's worth of blockers and mana rocks locked down. It is a soft prison piece riding on the same tokens Gimbal wants anyway.

Sharding Sphinx
Art by Michael Bruinsma

Sharding Sphinx

Sharding Sphinx makes a 1/1 flying Thopter every time one of your artifact creatures connects with a player. A wide board of Gremlins and Thopters means several triggers a combat, and each new Thopter is another artifact for your lords and another token for Gimbal's count. It builds a flying army that refills itself as long as your creatures keep getting through.

Hellkite Igniter
Art by Jason Chan

Hellkite Igniter

Hellkite Igniter is the finisher. It flies, it has haste, and you can pump it by +1/+0 for each artifact you control by paying a single red mana. With a board of tokens and Treasures, that pump gets out of hand fast. Sink your Treasures into it and it can swing for lethal out of nowhere, especially with trample from Gimbal already on the team.

How to Play

Open with ramp and cheap token makers so you start stacking up differently named artifacts early. Get Academy Manufactor or Tireless Provisioner going and your token variety climbs on its own, which means Gimbal drops a bigger Gremlin at the end of every turn. Use Master of Etherium to buff the whole board and Junk Winder to keep the table tapped down while you build. Once you have a wide artifact board, close with trampling Gremlins, a flock of Thopters off Sharding Sphinx, or a single huge Hellkite Igniter turn. The deck grinds value while it sets up and then swings hard once the tokens pile up.
