commander · Prosper, Tome-Bound
Planar Portal (AFR).
A Rakdos exile-and-treasure engine from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, led by Prosper, Tome-Bound — exile the top of your library each turn to cast spells for free, generating Treasure tokens that fuel explosive follow-up turns.
The Commander
Planar Portal is the Rakdos exile-cast deck from AFR Commander and one of the most consistent precons in the set. Prosper exiles the top of your library at your end step and lets you play that card until the end of your next turn. Every time you cast a spell from exile, you create a Treasure token. The result: every turn cycle you get an extra card and a mana rock, and the more spells you cast from exile, the more Treasures you generate.
Prosper, Tome-Bound also has deathtouch, making him a solid deterrent in combat. The real power is the snowball: one Treasure becomes two, two become four, and by mid-game you're casting multiple spells from exile per turn with enough mana to chain them together. The deck runs additional "exile-cast" payoffs so every Treasure created is also a trigger for further damage or card advantage.
Key Cards
Marionette Master
Whenever an artifact you control is put into the graveyard, each opponent loses life equal to Marionette Master's power. In a Prosper deck generating four to eight Treasures per turn cycle, Marionette Master drains opponents for that same amount every time those Treasures get sacrificed for mana. Fabricate on entry means she arrives with three +1/+1 counters and immediately becomes a 5/5, so spending Treasures deals five damage to each opponent per artifact. The deck's most reliable non-combat kill condition.
Etali, Primal Storm
Whenever Etali attacks, exile the top card of each library and cast one of them for free. In a Prosper deck, every card cast from exile generates a Treasure. Etali attacking into a four-player pod means four free exiled cards, four potential free spells, and four potential Treasure tokens — all before damage is even dealt. Etali converts attacking into a cascade of value and usually wins the game the turn it resolves.
Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant
Karazikar is an alternate commander option that rewards goading opponents' creatures into attacking elsewhere. When goaded creatures attack, their controller draws a card and you drain them for one life. In a Prosper deck, goading creates political chaos that protects your Treasure engine while opponents fight each other. The life drain is incremental but consistent — over six or eight turns it accumulates to a meaningful amount across three opponents.
Xorn
If you would create one or more Treasure tokens, you create one additional Treasure. Xorn doubles Prosper's Treasure output. Prosper exiles a card and you cast it from exile — that's now two Treasures instead of one. Get Etali's attack trigger with Xorn in play and four free spells generates eight Treasures in one attack step. Xorn is the deck's most important accelerant and the card opponents must answer immediately or watch the mana engine spiral out of control.
Valki, God of Lies
A double-faced card that works exceptionally well in Prosper's exile-cast package. On the front, Valki enters and copies your opponents' most important graveyard creature. Flip to Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor for a planeswalker that exiles cards from any library or graveyard and lets you cast them — which generates Treasures with Prosper. The ability to cast either face from exile off Prosper's trigger makes every copy a two-for-one opportunity.
How to Play
Get Prosper onto the battlefield by turn four and immediately start profiting from his end-step exile. The early game is about establishing the Treasure generation loop — cast cheap spells from exile, generate Treasures, use Treasures to cast more spells. Xorn doubles output as soon as he lands, so prioritize finding him by turn five or six. Mid-game, deploy Marionette Master to convert your Treasure sacrifices into direct damage — opponents suddenly realize every mana rock they let you make is five damage. Win by overwhelming the table with free spells from Etali attacks while Marionette Master converts the resulting Treasure pile into lethal damage.
