commander · Korvold, Fae-Cursed King
Savage Hunter (B19).
A Jund sacrifice Brawl deck led by Korvold, Fae-Cursed King, sacrifice permanents on every attack to grow Korvold into an enormous dragon while drawing cards, and close games by flying over opponents with a 12/12 that they've been fueling all game.
The Commanders
Savage Hunter is a Jund Brawl deck built around Korvold, the most powerful sacrifice payoff printed in years. Every permanent you sacrifice draws a card and puts a +1/+1 counter on Korvold. The deck loads up on food tokens, clue tokens, treasure tokens, and creatures designed to be sacrificed, then rides Korvold to lethal damage while staying ahead on cards.
Korvold, Fae-Cursed King costs {2}{B}{R}{G} and is a 4/4 Dragon Noble with flying. When he enters or attacks, sacrifice another permanent. Whenever you sacrifice a permanent, put a +1/+1 counter on Korvold and draw a card. The mandatory sacrifice on attack becomes the deck's engine rather than a drawback: attack with Korvold, sacrifice a Food token, grow by one, draw a card, deal damage. By turn seven or eight, Korvold regularly attacks as a 10/10+ flying threat with multiple cards drawn per combat. Opponents have to kill Korvold before he becomes unanswerable, and every interaction that fails just gives him more counters.
Key Cards
Trail of Crumbs
Card advantage from food sacrifices. Trail of Crumbs is an enchantment that creates a Food token when it enters. Whenever you sacrifice a Food, pay {1} to look at the top two cards of your library and put one in your hand. In a deck that generates food tokens constantly from the Eldraine environment, Trail of Crumbs converts each food sacrifice into a card. Since Korvold sacrifices permanents on each attack, and food tokens are the easiest permanents to generate, Trail of Crumbs refills your hand while Korvold draws cards off the same sacrifice trigger.
Gilded Goose
Mana and food generation from one drop. Gilded Goose creates a Food token on entry and can tap to create another Food token by paying one mana or convert a Food into {G}. As a one-mana creature, Gilded Goose provides early ramp and a constant stream of Food tokens for Korvold to sacrifice. Each Food sacrifice draws a card and puts a counter on Korvold. A single Gilded Goose can fuel three or four Korvold sacrifice triggers across multiple turns, accelerating his growth significantly.
Witch's Oven
Sacrifice outlet and food generator. Tap and sacrifice a creature to create a Food token. Pair it with Cauldron Familiar (a cat that returns from the graveyard whenever you sacrifice a Food) and Witch's Oven becomes an infinite loop: sacrifice the Familiar for a Food, sacrifice the Food to return the Familiar, repeat. Each iteration drains every opponent for 1 life off Cauldron Familiar's death trigger. It also triggers Korvold's counter and card draw once per sacrifice in the same turn. The Witch's Oven and Cauldron Familiar pair is the deck's most powerful interaction.
Murderous Rider
Removal that generates a sacrifice target. Murderous Rider's Swift End side destroys any creature or planeswalker at the cost of 2 life. After it resolves, Murderous Rider itself becomes a 2/3 lifelink creature you can later sacrifice to Korvold. For {1}{B}{B}, you remove a permanent, deploy a 2/3 lifelink body, and set up a future Korvold sacrifice. It also shuffles back into your library when it dies, so you can draw and play it again. Rebuying a card like that matters in a Brawl deck with only 60 cards.
Feasting Troll King
The deck's backup finisher. Feasting Troll King is a 7/6 with vigilance, trample, and haste that creates three Food tokens when it enters. If you have three or more Foods, it can be cast for {G}{G}{G} from the graveyard by sacrificing three Foods. Feasting Troll King enters, makes three Foods, you sacrifice two to Korvold, then it dies, and you sacrifice three foods to bring it back. That loop generates repeated sacrifice triggers for Korvold while keeping a 7/6 trampler on the board permanently.
How to Play
The deck opens with Gilded Goose on turn one for early food generation. Get Korvold onto the field by turn five and start attacking immediately. His mandatory sacrifice means you need at least one food or expendable creature available on each attack. The Witch's Oven and Cauldron Familiar loop is the most powerful turn in the deck: assemble it in the mid game and use it to drain opponents while stacking Korvold counters before making the lethal attack. Korvold grows fastest when you're sacrificing something each turn, so plan your sacrifice targets and keep disposable permanents ready. Win by attacking with a 10+ power flying Korvold after three or four turns of counter accumulation.
