Daretti, Scrap Savant
A mono-red artifact recursion deck from Commander 2014, led by Daretti, Scrap Savant, loot through your library, reanimate artifacts from the graveyard, and build an unstoppable artifact engine with Goblin Welder and Feldon.
Five mono color decks, each led by a planeswalker printed for the first time as a legal commander.
This is the set that introduced planeswalkers you can put in the command zone. Five of them, one per color, each with a line of text making it legal. It changed what the command zone could hold.
Every deck is a single color, which keeps the mana bases clean and gives each box a very clear plan. Good for new players and good for anyone building toward a specific color identity.
A living weapon Equipment brings a 0/0 Germ token to carry it. It solves the usual Equipment problem of needing a creature first, and the white deck uses it heavily.
Both appear as scaling mechanics: morph hides information for three mana, multikicker turns extra mana into a bigger effect. They give the mono color decks something to do with a flooded board.
Commander 2014 is the mono color year and the first time planeswalkers could lead a deck. Each box gives you one color, one walker and a plan that follows from the two.
Two of the five have had long lives. Daretti, Scrap Savant is still a strong mono red artifact commander, and Teferi, Temporal Archmage became infamous once players noticed that his ultimate combined with Stax pieces to lock out a table. Nahiri and Freyalise remain decent budget commanders for their archetypes.
The decks themselves are slow by modern standards. What you get is a clean single color shell and a commander that is much harder to remove than a creature.
Built from Scratch is the most fun of the five and Daretti holds up. Guided by Nature is the cheapest to improve, since Elf support has never stopped being printed.
