commander · Lathril, Blade of the Elves
Elven Empire (KHM).
A Golgari Elf tribal deck from Kaldheim that goes wide and drains the table. Lathril, Blade of the Elves taps ten Elves to knock each opponent for 10 life at once.
The Commanders
Elven Empire is the Golgari Elf tribal deck from Kaldheim. It does what elf decks have always done: flood the board with cheap bodies, pump them with anthems, and use elf mana dorks to cast way ahead of curve. What Golgari adds is a black finish, so instead of only swinging you can also drain the whole table out of nowhere. The deck is fast, wide, and mean once the count gets high.
Lathril, Blade of the Elves gives you two ways to win. She has menace, so she connects easily, and when she deals combat damage you make that many 1/1 Elf tokens, which snowballs your board every turn she hits. Her real payoff is the tap ability: tap ten untapped Elves and each opponent loses 10 life while you gain 10. In a deck built to make elves by the fistful, ten bodies is not a high bar, and that ability ignores blockers entirely.
Key Cards
Elvish Archdruid
Elvish Archdruid is the classic elf engine. It buffs your other elves by +1/+1 and taps for green mana equal to the number of elves you control, so a modest board produces a huge pile of mana. That mana casts your bigger spells and refills the board after a wipe. It is the card that lets an elf deck explode a turn or two earlier than it should.
Imperious Perfect
Imperious Perfect is an anthem and a token factory in one. Your other elves get +1/+1, and you can pay a green and tap it to make a 1/1 Elf Warrior every turn. Those tokens grow the count for Lathril's tap ability and get pumped by the same anthem. It works on its own but shines with untap effects or extra mana from your dorks.
Shaman of the Pack
Shaman of the Pack drains a target opponent for the number of elves you control the moment it enters. On a full board that is often lethal by itself, and it does not care about blockers or removal on your attackers. Blink it or return it from the graveyard and you can drain a second and third time. It is the backup finish for when Lathril gets answered.
Marwyn, the Nurturer
Marwyn gets a +1/+1 counter every time another elf enters, and she taps for green mana equal to her power. In a deck that plays elves every turn she grows fast, and by the mid game she is tapping for five or six mana on her own. That mana casts your expensive elves and mass token spells. She does need protection, since she is a big part of the deck's ramp once she gets going.
Lys Alana Huntmaster
Lys Alana Huntmaster makes a 1/1 Elf Warrior every time you cast an elf spell, and this deck casts a lot of them. Since nearly every creature you play is an elf, the tokens come steadily without any extra effort. That is free fuel for Lathril's tap, free bodies for Shaman of the Pack, and more targets for your anthems. It quietly widens the board every turn it survives.
Poison-Tip Archer
Poison-Tip Archer drains each opponent for 1 whenever another creature dies, and it has reach and deathtouch so it holds the ground against fliers. In a wide elf deck, a board wipe stops being a disaster and starts being a drain: every elf that dies pings the table. It turns your own removal, chump blocks, and even Rhys sacrifices into steady damage across the board.
How to Play
Lead with your mana dorks. Elvish Mystic, Marwyn, and the Archdruid let you cast well ahead of curve and rebuild fast if you get swept. From there you flood the board with token makers like Imperious Perfect and Lys Alana Huntmaster while your anthems make everything hit harder. Once you have ten elves you can tap for Lathril's ability and take 10 off every opponent at once, and Shaman of the Pack gives you a second drain when they least expect it. Poison-Tip Archer punishes the board wipes people will aim at you, so keep making elves and let the drains close the game.
