commander · Satya, Aetherflux Genius
Creative Energy (M3C).
A Jeskai energy deck led by Satya, Aetherflux Genius, generate energy counters through artifacts and creatures, then convert them into tokens, card advantage, and explosive board states.
The Commanders
Creative Energy is a Jeskai energy deck from Modern Horizons 3. Satya, Aetherflux Genius combines the energy mechanic, one of Magic's most underexplored design spaces, with artifact synergies and token generation. The deck generates energy through creatures and artifacts entering the battlefield, then spends that energy on high-impact abilities. It's one of the first precons to make energy a primary Commander theme rather than a supporting mechanic.
Satya, Aetherflux Genius generates energy and converts it into value. She creates temporary creature token copies when she attacks if you spend the right amount of energy, giving you the ETB triggers and the combat power without casting the creature again. She's the intersection of the Jeskai token game plan and the Kaladesh energy engine, and she generates both simultaneously.
Key Cards
Whirler Virtuoso
An energy producer that converts energy into Thopter tokens. Whirler Virtuoso enters and gives you three energy. Pay three energy at any time to create a 1/1 Thopter with flying. This is the deck's primary token generation from the energy pool. If you're not spending energy on Satya or another payoff, you're making Thopters for combat. With ways to generate large amounts of energy quickly, Virtuoso can create multiple Thopters per turn, providing both a flying army and a consistent energy sink.
Aethertide Whale
Energy generation and a powerful flying threat combined. Aethertide Whale enters and generates six energy, the most of any single card in the deck. It also has flying and a protection ability: pay six energy to return it to your hand before it dies, effectively making it indestructible against removal. Satya copies this ability each attack, generating six more energy from the copy. With the Whale protected by its bounce ability and generating energy constantly, the deck maintains fuel indefinitely.
Goldspan Dragon
Mana doubling on a haste flyer. Goldspan Dragon creates a Treasure when it attacks or becomes the target of a spell. Each Treasure you tap produces two mana instead of one. In a Jeskai deck that casts expensive energy payoffs, doubling Treasure mana from three to six accelerates your big turns dramatically. Satya also creates a temporary copy of Goldspan Dragon when she attacks, and the copy triggers another Treasure, which taps for double mana too.
Combustible Gearhulk
A 6/6 first strike that forces an opponent to choose: let you draw three cards, or let you deal damage equal to their mana value. With Modern Horizons 3 cards that cost five or six mana, opponents are often choosing between giving you three cards or taking 12-15 damage. Either choice is bad for them. Satya copying Gearhulk when she attacks presents this choice twice in one combat. The card generates immediate advantage no matter what opponents decide.
Aethersquall Ancient
A 6/6 flying creature that generates three energy per upkeep and doubles as a board reset. Pay eight energy to return all other creatures to their owners' hands. In a deck that generates energy rapidly through multiple sources, you can accumulate eight energy in two or three turns and wipe every creature except your own. This gives the deck an answer to creature-heavy boards that also advances your energy total every single upkeep.
Decoction Module
Energy on every creature entry. Decoction Module gives you one energy whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control. In a deck that creates Thopter tokens constantly and has Satya making copies on attacks, Decoction Module generates energy passively every single turn. Over the course of a game, this adds up to 20-30 energy from entries alone. It also has a secondary ability to pay energy to return creatures to hand, enabling re-use of the best ETB effects.
How to Play
Establish mana rocks and energy generators in the first three turns. Satya comes out on turn four once you have at least one other energy producer. She needs an energy pool to threaten anything meaningful with her attack trigger. Focus on creatures that generate three or more energy on entry: Aethertide Whale, Whirler Virtuoso, and Combustible Gearhulk are your priority.
The mid-game is about maintaining an energy stockpile above eight while threatening Satya attacks. Each Satya attack that copies a major creature (Goldspan Dragon, Aethertide Whale, Combustible Gearhulk) generates a full extra value activation for free. Win through combat damage from a flying Thopter army backed by Satya copies, or drain opponents out with Combustible Gearhulk's choice repeatedly. The deck rewards stacking energy fast and spending it at the right moment for maximum impact.
