commander · Rin and Seri, Inseparable
Raining Cats and Dogs (SLD).
A Naya cat and dog tribal deck from Secret Lair, led by Rin and Seri, Inseparable, cast cats to generate dogs and cast dogs to generate cats, then tap Rin and Seri to deal damage and gain life equal to your board counts.
The Commander
Raining Cats and Dogs is Secret Lair's cat and dog tribal Commander deck. It contains twenty-seven cards with new art, including five reversible double-faced cards showing cats on one side and dogs on the other. Rin and Seri, Inseparable is a 4/4 for one red, one green, and one white that creates a 1/1 green Cat token whenever you cast a Dog spell, and a 1/1 white Dog token whenever you cast a Cat spell. Tap them plus pay one of each color to deal damage equal to your Dog count and gain life equal to your Cat count.
Rin and Seri, Inseparable rewards playing both creature types at once. Every Cat spell creates a Dog, every Dog spell creates a Cat, and the board grows fast. The tap ability turns the board count into direct damage and life gain with a single activation. With Anointed Procession doubling every token entering play, a single Cat spell creates two Dogs and the feedback loop reaches critical mass within a few turns.
Key Cards
Anointed Procession
Whenever you would create one or more tokens, you create twice that many instead. Every Rin and Seri trigger doubles: cast a Cat, get two Dogs. Cast a Dog, get two Cats. With Rin and Seri active and Anointed Procession in play, each tribal spell generates two tokens of the opposite type, and both those tokens trigger whatever enters effects are on the board. That growth takes the active player from ten creatures to forty within two or three spell casts.
Jetmir, Nexus of Revels
Creatures you control get +1/+0 and have vigilance if you control three or more creatures. They also get +1/+0 and trample if you control six or more. And another +1/+0 and double strike if you control nine or more. In a deck that generates tokens constantly, clearing the three-creature threshold happens by turn three. With a full board of fifteen-plus creatures, every attacker has +3/+0, vigilance, trample, and double strike. Jetmir converts the wide token army Rin and Seri generates into a lethal combat swing.
Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second
If you would create a token, you may instead create a 2/2 green Cat creature token with haste or a 3/1 green Dog creature token with haste. It replaces every token created, so Rin and Seri's 1/1 tokens become 2/2 Cats or 3/1 Dogs with haste, all entering the battlefield ready to attack immediately. Paired with Anointed Procession, every tribal spell creates two 3/1 haste Dogs or two 2/2 haste Cats. The entire board becomes an immediate threat the turn each token enters.
Brimaz, King of Oreskos
A 3/4 white Cat legendary creature with vigilance. Whenever Brimaz attacks, create a 1/1 white Cat Soldier token that's attacking. Whenever Brimaz blocks, create a 1/1 Cat Soldier token that's blocking. Brimaz generates a Cat token every combat step, which triggers Rin and Seri to create a Dog token in return. Two token generators feed each other every combat, and both tokens count toward the Rin and Seri tap ability thresholds for damage and life.
Kitt Kanto, Mayhem Diva
Whenever a creature attacks, its controller may tap two untapped creatures they control. If they do, the attacking creature gets +2/+2. In a deck with a wide board of small tokens, tapping two 1/1 tokens to pump an attacking Rin and Seri or Jetmir turns a mid-size swing into a game-ending one. Kitt Kanto also creates political incentives in multiplayer. Opponents attack each other to use the pump ability, which buys the deck time while it builds to critical mass.
How to Play
Deploy Rin and Seri by turn three and follow immediately with Cat or Dog spells to start the token cross-generation loop. Each Cat spell creates a Dog, each Dog spell creates a Cat, and within two turns you have ten to fifteen creatures in play. Drop Anointed Procession to double every token entry, then follow with Jinnie Fay to convert all tokens into 2/2 or 3/1 haste bodies. Once Jetmir is on the battlefield with nine or more creatures, attack with everything, since the entire board has double strike and trample. Close with the Rin and Seri tap ability to deal direct damage equal to the Dog count while the combat damage resolves. The deck wins through simultaneous pressure vectors: a wide lethal combat swing backed by direct damage from the tap activation.
