The Commanders

Zimone, Infinite Analyst
Zimone, Infinite Analyst · Art by Yongjae Choi

Quandrix Unlimited is a Simic Commander deck built around X spells and exponential mana scaling. Zimone grows by picking up counters and turns those counters into a discount: your first X spell each turn costs one less mana for each +1/+1 counter on her. With enough counters, you're casting 10-mana X spells for effectively nothing and making armies of Fractals and Hydras that opponents can't match.

Zimone, Infinite Analyst costs {1}{G}{U} and is a 0/4 Human Wizard. The first spell you cast with {X} in its mana cost each turn costs {1} less to cast for each +1/+1 counter on Zimone. Whenever you cast your first X spell each turn, put two +1/+1 counters on Zimone. She feeds herself: each X spell makes her bigger, which makes the next X spell cheaper, which lets you pay more X. By turn seven or eight, Zimone commonly has eight or more counters, which cuts a Hydra's cost by eight and effectively doubles the value of every mana spent.

Key Cards

Hydroid Krasis
Art by Jason Felix

Hydroid Krasis

The deck's best standalone X spell. Hydroid Krasis costs {X}{G}{U} and enters with X/2X power/toughness (flying, trample), gaining you half X life and drawing half X cards on cast. Those triggers happen on cast, not on resolution, so it can't be countered to deny the value. With Zimone at 8 counters and 12 mana available, Krasis costs effectively 4 mana for a 12/12 flier with trample while drawing 6 cards and gaining 6 life. The cast trigger means opponents can't counter it to deny you the card draw. Hydroid Krasis is the cleanest expression of what Zimone enables.

Echoing Equation
Art by Cristi Balanescu

Echoing Equation

The deck's most explosive X spell. Echoing Equation costs {3}{U} and makes each creature you control into a copy of target creature you control until end of turn. Cast it after building a large Zimone (say, 12 counters) and turn your entire board into copies of Zimone, each with 12 counters. Every copy now generates {12} toward X spells. Then cast any X spell for free with the combined counter reduction. Echoing Equation into a large X spell is the closest thing the deck has to a one-turn kill button.

Finale of Devastation
Art by Bayard Wu

Finale of Devastation

The deck's direct win condition. Finale of Devastation searches your library or graveyard for a creature with mana value X or less and puts it into play. If X is 10 or more, all your creatures get +X/+X and haste. With Zimone at 8 counters and 12 mana, you cast it for effectively {X=4+8=12}: get any creature from your library or graveyard and immediately win with a +12/+12 buff to your entire board. One swing ends the game.

Rishkar, Peema Renegade
Art by Patrick Jacomino

Rishkar, Peema Renegade

Mana acceleration through Zimone's counters. Rishkar enters and puts a +1/+1 counter on up to two target creatures. Every creature with a +1/+1 counter on it can tap for {G}. In a deck full of creatures that accumulate counters through X spell casting, Rishkar turns your board into a mana-generating engine. Zimone with 8 counters taps for {G} thanks to Rishkar. Multiple counter-laden creatures together produce enough mana to cast enormous X spells the turn after Rishkar enters, massively accelerating the clock.

Zimone and Dinli
Art by Ernanda Souza

Zimone and Dinli

The deck's secondary X-spell payoff and counter synergy piece. Zimone and Dinli is a Legendary Creature that creates an X/X Fractal token when you cast your first X spell each turn, in addition to Zimone's normal counter growth. Every Fractal enters with +1/+1 counters equal to X, which means more Rishkar mana, more Echoing Equation copies, and more Finale of Devastation damage. The two Zimone versions working together turn the X-spell reward cycle into an engine that feeds itself.

How to Play

The first three turns are ramp-only. Hit four mana by turn three, play Zimone on turn three or four, and cast your first cheap X spell immediately to put counters on her. Spend each subsequent turn casting exactly one X spell before doing anything else to maximize Zimone's counter accumulation. By turn six, Zimone should have six or more counters, and at that point X spells are dramatically discounted. The win condition is Finale of Devastation with X at 10 or more, which ends the game on the spot with a full board swing. If opponents interact with Zimone repeatedly, switch to Echoing Equation value with whatever large creatures you've accumulated.
