Kardur, Doomscourge
A Rakdos goad and chaos deck from the Starter Commander Decks, led by Kardur, Doomscourge, force opponents' creatures to attack each other while profiting from every death with life drain and life gain.
Five two color decks aimed at new players, each with one clear plan and a simple mana base.
Every deck is exactly two colors with a straightforward land base. Nothing here asks you to fix your mana before the deck functions.
Each box picks a single archetype and sticks to it: flyers, Dragons, Zombies, tokens or goad. No secondary subthemes competing for slots.
A goaded creature has to attack, and it cannot attack you. The Rakdos deck runs on it, which teaches multiplayer politics faster than any rules explanation.
Starter Commander Decks were built as a first purchase rather than a seasonal release. Five decks, two colors each, one theme each, and no new mechanics to learn.
They are not powerful, and that is deliberate. What they do well is show a new player how one archetype is supposed to work before anyone starts making swaps. Each box also runs a low curve and a high land count, so games actually play out instead of stalling on four lands and a seven drop.
The other thing worth knowing is that the commanders are all well known cards rather than new legends. Isperia, Atarka, Gisa and Geralf, Emmara and Kardur have all been around, which means every one of these decks has an obvious upgrade path already mapped out by other players.
Token Triumph is the easiest to learn on, because the board grows even on turns where you draw badly. Chaos Incarnate teaches the most about how a four player game actually plays out, since goad forces everyone else to make attacks they did not want to make. Draconic Destruction is the one most likely to survive a decade of upgrades, given how many Dragons get printed every year.
